Rediffmail requires Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and POP/SMTP Access to be enabled before allowing access from third-party email applications. Once 2FA is active, users can generate an App Password, which is a one-time, application-specific credential used for secure POP/SMTP authentication.
Prerequisites : Before generating an App Password, ensure the following requirements are met:
- A valid and active Rediffmail account
- Two-Factor Authentication (2FA/TFA) enabled on the account
- POP/SMTP access enabled in mail settings
Procedure to Generate a Rediffmail App Password
Step 1: Sign in to Rediffmail
- Navigate to https://mail.rediff.com and log in using your Rediffmail credentials.
Step 2: Open Account Settings
- Click on your profile name or icon located in the top-right corner and access Mail Settings / Account Settings.

Step 3: Enable 2-STEP VERIFICATION / Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
If Two-Factor Authentication is not already enabled:
- Activate 2FA by following the on-screen instructions.
- Verify your registered mobile number or alternate email address.
- This step is mandatory, as App Password generation is not available without 2FA.

Step 4: Enable POP/SMTP Access
- Within the mail or security settings, ensure that POP / SMTP access is enabled for external applications.

Step 5: Generate an App Password
After successfully enabling 2FA and POP/SMTP access:
- Locate the Secure Password / App Password option.
- Click on Generate Password.

Step 6: Configure the Third-Party Application
- Copy the generated App Password (it is typically displayed only once).
- Use this password in place of your primary Rediffmail password when configuring the email account in any third-party application.
Important Considerations
- App Passwords are application-specific and intended only for third-party email clients.
- Your primary Rediffmail login password remains unchanged.
- If an App Password is revoked or regenerated, the corresponding email client must be updated with the new password.
- Webmail access continues to require your standard account password and 2FA verification.
