Standard Procedure to Import GSTR-1 Books Data in ExpressGST
Step 1: Log in and Select the Client
Log in to the ExpressGST application and select the relevant client for whom the GSTR-1 books data needs to be imported. Upon selection, the system will redirect you to the Return Summary page.
Step 2: Open the Import Books Data Module
On the Return Summary page, all applicable GSTR return types will be displayed. Locate the Import Books Data option on the left-hand side of the screen and click on it to launch the import wizard.
Step 3: Select the GSTR-1 Books Data File
Under Sales → GSTR-1, select the applicable Return Period (Month and Year) for which the data is to be imported (for example, Nov 2025).
Download the appropriate Excel template as required:
- GSTN Blank Template under the GSTN Template option, or
- Consolidated Excel Template (KDK Template) provided under the CA Plan for streamlined GSTR-1 return preparation.
Note on KDK Template:
The KDK Template is a consolidated worksheet within the GSTR-1 Excel template that captures section-wise summary data of outward supplies, including Taxable Value, CGST, SGST, IGST, and Cess. The data is derived from detailed transaction categories such as B2B, B2C, Exports, and Credit/Debit Notes, and is presented in a single consolidated sheet for ease of import.
Click the Browse button corresponding to the selected return period, locate the prepared GSTR-1 books data Excel file on your system, and click Open to upload the file.
Step 4: Initiate the Import Process
After successful upload of the file, click the Import button to initiate the data import process.
Step 5: Review Import Status
A system prompt will display the status of the import process, indicating whether the GSTR-1 books data has been imported successfully.
Step 6: Confirm and Complete
Once the import is completed successfully, click Okay to confirm and complete the process. The imported GSTR-1 books data will then be available for review and further processing within the ExpressGST application.
Following this standardized procedure ensures accurate and efficient import of GSTR-1 books data into ExpressGST, thereby facilitating seamless preparation and filing of GSTR-1 returns in compliance with GST regulations.
